90% of people hike the AT northbound (NOBO) — from Georgia to Maine. This means the hikers form a migrating crowd with departure dates varying from February to April. Since we were walking southbound, we decided to count NOBO’s today. We passed forty on our southbound trek!

Today we spent most of the day walking along a beautiful ridge line, similar to yesterday. Then we descended to Watauga Lake and crossed the largest earthen dam east of the Mississippi!

After that we walked about four miles around Lake Watauga, where the variety of wildflowers was stunning!

Today is a great day for a long walk in the woods.
