The sudden appearance of mushrooms after a summer rain is one of the more impressive spectacles of the plant world.
~John Tyler Bonner
All of the rain in Vermont made for depressing days and difficult hiking. However, mushrooms thrive in wet weather, so I saw lots of spectacular mushrooms along the trail!
I know absolutely nothing about mushroom identification, so I cannot make any meaningful comments about mushrooms. I just find the sheer variety of mushroom colors, shapes, and sizes fascinating, and I am sharing pictures of some of the more interesting specimens.
This red color really stands out on a rainy muddy day and the Q-tip shape is definitely different!
This traditionally-shaped mushroom makes a classic toadstool.
This mushroom is the brightest thing we saw all day!
The spiky shape of this mushroom is definitely unique!
The segmented shape of this mustard-colored mushroom sure is strange!
This mushroom reminds me of the Pillsbury Doughboy!!
I love the elegant curving edge of this mushroom.
Despite their diminutive size, the almost fluorescent red color makes these mushrooms really attract attention.
The complex pattern on the top of these mushrooms catches the eye.
And these were the only pink mushrooms I saw along the trail.
There was a purple mushroom too, which looks like seaweed or something from an alien spaceship.
What an abundant pile of micro-mushrooms!
