“In life it is not where you go but who you travel with.”

Charles Schultz

In the past few weeks I have acquired two new items for my pack — one very welcome and the other not so much.

My very talented daughter Lauren and my very talented daughter-in-law Kelly made an adorable super-lightweight mascot for me to take along on my journey. My wooly companion needed a very Scottish name, so I have dubbed it Hamish. I look forward to sharing many adventures with this cute little critter.

Meet Hamish!

The other new item for my journey is an ankle brace. Five weeks ago I sprained my ankle. Thankfully the x-ray showed nothing was broken. At my first PT appointment I informed the therapist that I was leaving to hike the Appalachian Trail in a month and my ankle needed to get with the program. After a rather surprised look, she examined my ankle and said that if I worked hard my ankle could probably do the trek. As you can imagine, I am being pretty diligent about doing those exercises! The PT strongly encouraged me to wear an ankle brace. I have found one that I really like, and I am hopeful that the sprain will not affect my hike too much.

If you are a praying sort, I would definitely appreciate prayers for my poor ankle!
